Well I've been piecing together my setup and just got the Oppo OPDV971H with the DVI output. So I installed through the 990 DVI switching setup. Pictures fine sound fine but now the 990 wont respond to the remote! Hey what, so I turn off the Oppo and it resonds normally again. Unplug the DVI and use the component from the Oppo also works fine.
I even tried a different DVI cable but the same effect. So what is to blame? Have other people with the Oppo noticed this? or is it my 990.
I have another DVI piece I need to hook up but I have to take it out of my other setup first.

Thanks for any help. Greg.

I have the same DVD and 990 hooked up thru DVI. I have experienced no problems here.

That's a rather bizarre situation - I've been running the DVI signal from my Oppo through the 990 for several months now and have used it quite a bit without running into this. I've got a small IR distribution set up, but the 990 gets its signal from an IR emitter mounted in front of the sensor window so it is acting just the same as a regular "remote straight to device" arrangement would. Since it's only happening when the Oppo is on, it must relate somehow to having a signal coming to the 990's DVI input.

If you haven't done so already, let Outlaw know about this one (either at 866-688-5292 or here ). The 990/Oppo combination has been steadily more and more common, and I'm sure they'd be interested to hear about your situation.

I have a similar issue (I think). When I'm listening to a CD and I turn on my LCD panel to access the setup screen OSD, it interrupts the audio output for a few seconds. That's just from powering the panel on and off.

I bought the Oppo by mid July 1 week after I received the 990, I had the problem that the remote control of Oppo could not turn on/off the player and everytime I had to walk up to manually press the on/off button but I did not have interference problem with 990 remote as your case, reinstalling the Oppo firmware as instructed would not help at all, finally a replacement Oppo unit solved this problem. What I want to say here is I had problem with the Oppo's remote before. If you have another remote control that can learn and replace the Oppo remote, maybe it worth to try, chance is that the problem comes from Oppo remote/player. Pardon me for my bias of leaning toward 990 side.

What process do you go through when turning on the panel, Ritz? I think that if you are switching back to control of the CD player (or DVD player) and in doing so "re-select" that input, the 990 stops and re-acquire the signal.

The simplest work-around, which I use sometimes with my MX-700 because most of the device buttons on the MAIN screen double as macros, is to cover the remote's emitter when hopping back and forth between devices. An alternative for MX-500 and MX-700 users is to put a button on the source device's page to turn the TV on (which I also do - every device has a "TV ON" button handy just in case).

Ritz: What CD player (or DVD for CD playback) are you using?

(Just a post to push the Podmeister to 100!)

This is not an Oppo remote problem but the remote for the 990 doesn't opperate the 990 any more when the Oppo is on, turn off the Oppo and it does.
How do I check the Oppo to see what firmware it does have, I just got it direct from them so I would hope it is the latest whatever that is?
I spoke with Outlaw tech and he says there is no way that this should/could be happening and believes that I must be inadvertently commanding the remote to opperate another devise. So he says make sure I press the TNR button before trying to use it. I will check this (I'm doubtful as it goes away mearly by powering off the Oppo and I have the Volume punch through set up so at least the volume should work) I will also try and attach my HD tuner which is DVI to see if this does the same thing, and try switching the DVI from 1 to 2 for the Oppo.
Is there any problems with DVI cables that might need to be checked there are so many types and I'm not sure what the difference between them might cause (i.e. Single link, Double link, I or D)
Looks like a frustrating w/e ahead.

If it came from Oppo, it should have the latest firmware. To check, here are the instructions from Oppo's support page (which lists the latest version):
  • Press Setup on the remote controller
  • Enter 9210 on the remote controller
  • A menu will pop up to show the firmware version of the OPPO player.

I agree with the Outlaw tech in principle: the Oppo's on/off status should not affect the 990's IR sensor or ability to receive remote commands. The operative word there, however, is "should" - and strange things can happen sometimes. I think the list of things to check is a good one, and I would probably not include the DVI cable on your list (I have both a dual link and single link in my system - single link provided by Oppo between it and the 990 and a dual link from the 990 to the TV). Let us know what you find.

Does anyone have a code for the 990 remote to run the Oppo DVD?
