As I read the owners manual on the site, the lip sync delay adjustment is not available unless the video is run through the 990 (i.e., can't run HDMI direct to TV and optical audio only to the 990). Is this correct?

The lip sync delay is available for all video sources (it's not included on audio sources since there isn't a video source to sync up to), and is independent of the video signal path. You absolutely can run the video directly to the TV and still set the lip sync delay for the input - although you currently need to be able to get to the OSD to make adjustments to the delay setting (Outlaw has indicated that they are working on a change to the interface as part of a future firmware update that would allow the lip sync button on the remote to bring up the active input's sync setting on the front panel, which would eliminate the need to get into the OSD).
Thanks for advice, Gonk. Well, I am comfortable with the unit at this point. No need to chase for any upgrading that urgently, as long as it is processing the A/V well as it is.
