Hi all, I just got my 990 evening. It look good and sound great. One question..... I can turn OFF but not turn ON the 990 with the outlaw remote control. Would any one confirm this for me )

Press any one of the input buttons on the remote, ie. DVD, CD, etc. I'll admit I scratched my head on this too.

vuamp2--join the club. Very many of us got caught this way on the remote. You need to push one of the input buttons on the bottom of the remote--where it has the AM/FM and the buttons on the three rows below it (except "night"). Push one of those buttons after you've pushed the "tnr" button in the top section (right below the "tv" button). (Puzzler of the day: why didn't Outlaw exchange the "night" and "am/fm" buttons? That way all of the buttons that turn on (and change inputs for) the 990 would have been together in one place. Oh well--ours is not to reason why . . . .)

It seems pretty bizarre at first, but there's a method to the madness. The Model 1050 had a typical power on/off button on the remote, but quite a few people requested discrete on and off commands (helps a lot with remote control macros), so when the 950 came along they went to discrete commands with a power off button - and to provide for power on they arranged for any input command to turn the unit on if it wasn't already. The 990 has retained that capability, although it seems to have turned out to be a bit less intuitive because of the different remote used (the 950's SL-9000 had device buttons at the top of the remote that served to both select the device to be controlled by the remote and to select the input to be active).

The Outlaw remote is 'adequate' for the 990 and the rest of your system.
I just received my Logitech Harmony 880 yesterday and love it. Reasonable price (with my $75 discount) fairly easy to program and the 'one touch' operation is GREAT!
My wife thinks it is the single best audio/video component I have ever purchased :-)

All, thanks for your feedback. It works per your instruction . It does not make much sense but I will learn to live with it.

Now, next question.....
Is the romote control come with the 990 is a "learned" remote. I afraid the answer is NO

The 990's remote is not a learning remote (it cannot learn individual commands from other remotes).
