Hi All,
I got my pre-ordered 990 back in early June & I've been using it for the past 2 months. I've had a couple of minor issues but I haven't really delved deeply into them. Right now I have a concern with the front RCA A/V jacks (Video 5) & I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.
Last month I borrowed somebody's Xbox & I plugged it into the front A/V jacks. I get video but I don't get any sound. It works fine if I use Video 4's rca jacks in the back of the unit. I used the 990's onscreen menu to configure it & choose composite video & audio, but I still get no sound from it.
Is there something I have to do to get the front jacks to work or is this a defect in the unit & I need to get it sent in for repairs?
Thanks, Twitchy_One

If the xbox was set for digital sound, do you need to set the xbox to analog sound or anything? Just thinking out loud. I am on the road so I can't check for you but I originally hooked my xbox up through the front so I could change the video output to component, but I don't remember if it had sound or not.

I haven't tried any other sources on video 5 yet. I'll try a second source (spare VCR) on Video 5 this weekend & see how it goes. I'll report back what I find from it.

Ok. I plugged a cheap DVD player into the front video 5 inputs. It shows video but no sound. The video is set to composite & the sound is set to analog which also works fine from the DVD jacks in the back of the unit.
I tried a spare VCR but it was unable to show a picture clearly. My guess on the picture is that since I was using Component jacks it was having some problems with translation. This problem doesn't occur on my main VCR that is connected to Video 3.
So it appears to be a defect in the front panel video 5 audio inputs. My Xbox or the extra DVD player only has but analog jacks. Guess it's time to call Tech Support & see about sending it back in for repair or replacement. Darnit.

Just an update for everyone. I got this resolved working with Tech Support. I cracked open the case & found the Video 5 RCA jacks not plugged to the audio board in back. It was simply plug n' play to put them back in. After that, the Video 5 RCA sound worked as expected. I did a quick test of all my other sources & everything is working as well. I took a few photos of the guts. Perhaps I'll post them later.
Thanks

Cool! Glad to hear it was an easy "fix".
