Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this. I figured someone here may have an answer for me. I'm looking to find a relay controlled power strip for my non-relay controlled amps. Basically, outlets that I can controll with the 12v amp output of my 990.

Does anyone know of where this might be purchased (or if it exists)?

I solved the problem with the SmartStrip a couple of weeks back and it works fine.Also its less expensive than the AC1.

I was looking getting a Xantech AC1 to turn on my two subwoofer amps and cooling fan from the DC control on the 990 processor, but the AC1's DC input is simply a plus and minus wire terminal connector. Can I simply cut one end of a 3.5 mm mono phono plug cable (like the one I use on my outlaw amp) and connect the two wires? With a mono phono plug which wire is the positive and which is the negative?

At least according to the Integra Research RDC-7.1 manual, black is ground (-?) and the other cable is positive (I think).

Hopefully someone can give a more definitive answer on this one. I've tried to find better info on the web without much luck so far.

I'd also like to know this as I think I will want to control power to my new amp in this way as well and while the RDC-7.1 does have one 3.5mm 12 v trigger output on it, it has 5 that are connected via a Phoenix plug, where black goes to ground and the other cable goes to one of the other 5 connectors.

You might try running the question past Outlaw . I suspect that there is an industry standard, such at the RDC-7.1 manual would be a good indicator, but Outlaw could tell you for certain. If you do get some confirmation, let us know what the answer was.

I went to Radio Shack last night and found this cable http://tinyurl.com/2lpb7n

It's got a 3.5mm mono plug on one end and 2 stripped leads on the other. Perfect for use in the scenarios we are talking about.

Only problem is figuring out which lead is + and which is - (or ground). I believe that the outer lead, which looks like it actually acts as a shield for the inner lead is the - or ground lead and the inner lead is +.

Question is whether sending a 12V <100 milliamp signal to the wrong terminal of a piece of equipment can damage it.

My thoughts are that this is not enough current to damage anything, but I don't know for certain.

If you do get an answer from the Outlaws on this, please let us know.

Taking Gonk's suggestion I logged a question to the Outlaw support site. I received the answer this morning from one of their support techs Edward. Here's the answer:

You can use the trigger 2 connector for that purpose (just make sure to turn the trigger 2 output "On" for every source from within the Input Config menu of the Model 990).

For connection to the Xantech unit you mention, simply cut off one end of your trigger cable and strip back the wires. A standard mono mini trigger cable is a two conductor wire (positive and negative). The wire running in the middle of the cable is your positive lead. The outer wire, is your negative lead.

Connect them accordingly to the Xantech, and you should be all set!

Just make sure that you do not have the trigger cable connected when making your splices.
