Anyone using pro sound type amp(s) with their 990? If so, what are you doing about the difference in input sensitivity (i.e. +4 dB vs -10 dB)?

I don't think you understood my question.

Typical "pro audio" equipment operates at +4db (1.23 volts). Typical "consumer" equipment operates at -10 db (0.316 volts). The 990's manual states that the preout level is 1 volt (page 49). If you connect the 990 to an amp with an input sensitivity of +4 db then you will not get get full power from your amp at full signal from the 990. Therein lies my question - what do you do about the difference in input sensitivity? On the other hand, the 7100 amp specs state a 1.00 volt input sensitivity while the 755 and 770 amps state an input sensitivity of 1.43 volts so maybe theres something I'm missing here.

BTW, I do own a 990 - it's sitting right here beside me smile .

I think you’ll find that both the 990 and the 950 have a peak output voltage that can exceed one volt, probably by a factor of about 10dB to 10 volts, or a little more, before clipping. I’ve never bothered to measure my 950’s absolute peak because I’ll never need it – I can’t get 10,000 watts per channel out of my 770 anyway.

Outlaw multi-channel amplifiers have a 28dB voltage gain as reported in the specs for the 770, 755 and 7100 models. One volt plus a 28dB voltage gain provides an output resulting in about 100 watts for a nominal eight-ohm load, while 1.43 volts with a 28dB voltage gain provides an output that results in about 200 watts into a nominal eight-ohm load. Therefore, a one volt input into any of these three amplifiers will result in approximately the same output of 100 watts into eight ohms. A 1.43 volt input would overdrive the 7100 while bringing the 755 and 770 to their full rated 200 watt output into eight ohms.

Seems to me this input sensitivity and gain level puts the Outlaw amps in the +4dB class, if one is concerned with such labels.

how do you calculate what your input would be -10 or +4 .. I just ask because the input of the M200's is 1.7 volt for full output and I was told that using the +4 on my DSP would overdrive the amps and I Had to use the -10 setting by outlaw support
