First time user. New 990, love it except I can't get the subwoofer(s) to work. I have Def Tech 7002s in the front, an older JBL in the rear. I have been working with Steve at support for help, have done everything he has suggested and get nothing. Even tried a Digital Video Essentials disk - output on all channels beautifully except subwoofer. No LFE at all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since the help desk is closed until Tuesday the 5th. Thanks.

Open 'er up and look around. Do you own a good soldering iron?

Make sure your DVD has LFE or sub enabled; you are using the didgital out/in correct?

What are you connecting the LFE to? Is it the 7002's? If so, is there a jumper in place that might be bypassing the line input?

I used to use a Yamaha 2400 as a preamp, had no trouble getting bass from 7002s as well as the subwoofer. I split the LFE signal 3 ways then and bass from all 3 worked. Now with the 990 is seems I am nt getting enough signal. I can hear a faint response from the subwoofer on auto calibrate, but nothing from the 7002s. Steve seems to think there may be something in the way the crossovers are set, but I have played with this for a while. Stumped.

Some of these are probably asking the obvious, so bear with me...

- Have you tinkered with the gain on the 7002's?

- Have you tried using both unbalanced subwoofer outputs and only having a single splitter? You might even connect only one sub at a time to one or the other of the two outputs to test each individually, in case that can isolate the problem somehow.

- Have you tried the manual test tone and experimented with the calibration that way?

- DO you have the option of setting a crossover at your sub amps? If so, use the crossover with a high setting (150Hz or 200Hz) to low-pass the test tone (which is a full range signal) and see if that helps any.

By gain on the 7002s do you mean the volume knobs? Yes, I've turned them all of the way up and get no signal other than from the speaker cables. I pulled the separate subwoofer cable out and have a line from left and right Def Techs in the 2 subwoofer outputs on the 990. When I try the channel calibration I get nothing from the subwoofer.

I am still unsure as to what the culprit here may be. There are several possible suggestions for you (including this great post about hooking up DefTech 2002's), but it seems as if all the suggestions that I've been able to come up with have already been tried. There was one thing I found curious: were you able to get a test tone through your JBL sub?
