On Tuesday I received the 990 and I just got my amps on Friday. I started setting things up and I have some questions.

1. I asked a question before about using the 990 in a 6.1 mode since I only have one rear speaker. I have been through the manual and all through the OSD setup, and I can not find anything that allows one to configure just one rear speaker. Does anyone know what to do here?

2. Does the display on the 990 look cloudy on any one else's 990? Mine looks like there is a slight haze behind the display glass or on the display tube.

3. Is it normal that the power button on the remote only turns the 990 off. I can only turn on the 990 with a source key?


I know people posting here have stated the 990 is big, but I really did not realize that it was going to be so big! Kind of weird when you look through the slots, and it looks as if half of the space is empty. I know they needed a large back panel though. The unit seems nice so far though. I noticed too that my 1050 remote settings on my MX500 seem to control the 990 just fine, so I should only have to add a few new keys for the 990.

1. I'm not sure how that is implemented. Unless somebody else has a thought, I'd quiz Outlaw Support .

2. There's nothing that I would call "haze," but the illumination from the active elements does seem to "glow" outward slightly. It's only noticeable up close, which may be because of the slightly tinted glass of my cabinet door.

3. Yep, it is normal and intentional - it allows folks who want to set up macros on other universal remotes to have discrete "on" and "off" commands for the power. Since you have an MX-500, this means that you can have one macro that turns things on (in our system, there's a macro that turns on the TV, cable box, and the 990 with the cable input active, plus a macro that turns the TV, cable box, and 990 off).

It looks like the used the same rmeote codes, since the remote, itself is the same. That must be why your 1050 codes from the MX500 work on the 990, but of course you will need to rename things, since the buttons do different things.

Don't mean to insult your intelligence clo2016, but just in case...you did remove the protective film from the front of the 990, right?

I set up mine without the auto setup for 6.1.It was easy.

Are you sure about that setup? I got a reply from Outlaw CS stating "Unfortunately you can not configure the 990 for 6.1 operations." Although, they stated that with one rear channel in operation, that everything but DPL IIx would work fine. The DPL IIx has stereo rear information.

I guess I will have to build something to mix the two rears before the amp. I would put in two rear speakers, but my room will not allow it.
