I must be doing something wrong, as I completed all cable routing to my new 990....ran into only one problem with the Componant DVD Output to the 990:

I connected both the componant video trio from my DVD player TO the 990 Componant Input. No Video...only sound.

I DO get video from the DVD changer's S-Video output to the 990, but NOT from the changer's componant output, as noted.

I tried switching the cables with others (twice!), and still no video from the DVD player.

Has anyone else encountered this problem????

Appreciate the help!

One other point....

For all other video inputs to the 990 (all are S-video), I DO get componant output to the tv from the 990.

Can't figure out why the DVD player, which DOES have componant output on it, doesn't allow the 990 to output componant to the tv (as does occur with all other video connections, which as noted, are s-video to the 990).

Am I missing something here??

I am going to mention some fairly basic stuff so please don't take it as an insult.

Have you used the component output on the dvd player before? Some dvd players require you set the output to component in their setup menu.

You don't mention that you have component video running from the 990's component out to your display. That would be an obvious one.

Have you tried running the component cables straight from your dvd player to your tv? If it worked, that would eliminate the dvd player or tv as the culprit.

EDIT: Sorry, I was typing while you posted your last message.

I'll offer another "just to make sure" suggestion. Check the input settings for the DVD player - make sure you have the correct component input selected. You can select any of the three component inputs (component 1, component 2, or DVD), s-video, composite, or a DVI input. If you have the wrong input selected, you would get what you are describing.

Gonk, thanks for the suggestion. I have the correct input selection, BUT I just ruled out the 990.....

I tried another pre/pro which also had component in/out, and got the exact same results. Thus it is not the 990, but IS the Sony DVP-985V multidisc changer. I tried on the latter setting the component out to "interlaced" but it didn't help. Also tried progressive, and autoselection, for the component output of the Sony, but still no component display.

I checked the manual of the 985, and beyond setting the component output for interlaced, progressive, or auto, there doesn't seem to be any other option in the menu.

Don't know if there are any Sony DVD users out there, with the 990, who might shed some addtional light on this.

Yes...we posted at the same time!

Jed, it may well be you are correct in that the dvd player seems to be the culprit. I will try to get a staight run to the projector for the dvd player, to be sure.

Thanks for the input (pun not intended)!

It was indeed the DVD Changer.... one cable was connected to the wrong input on the component out.

Sometimes it is the simplist things.

Appreciate the help!

That's the crazy part of almost all this stuff: It's virtually ALWAYS a simple thing. laugh A misplugged (or bad) cable. An incorrectly set value in the third-level down menu in the DVD player. An unexpected change in the preamp setup. A cat that snuck behind the amplifier and loosened a speaker wire. (At least, at our house that happens. Sigh.)

When something goes awry, I almost always anticipate the worst... and it is usually "the least" that's actually wrong.

Glad you found the problem and that it was a minor issue.
