I am in the process of finishing my basement and I have a question (I already have the 990 but I am not even to drywall yet - it is killing me). I have a large L shaped room that has my screen and gear at one end. The other end of the L is where the kids are supposed to keep their toys and I hope to put a pool table some day. Since I am doing everything myself, I would like to run cable to a jack in that room and have the ability to display what is coming out of the 990 (so if a movie or game is on teh big screen it can be displayed on another tv too). Can I use the Video Moniter out or zone 2 video out jack? I will be running the main video source out through the DVI connections, and I would like to use a RCA to Cable converter to run the signal through RG6 coax. Will this work?

Thanks in advance.

Jerome

Either the monitor out or zone 2 video out would work to deliver a video signal to the other space. You may want to think about also running either speaker wire (so an amp in the main system could power speakers in that area) or analog audio cables (so a TV could get an audio signal as well as video) in the event that you want to have audio in the second area as well. If you use zone 2, you could even have a different source available to the other area.

Yes it can work . You will have to use a second composite video or S-video output from your main source into your 990 . Then connect the coverter to the S-video or composite video monitor out of the 990 . This connection will probably be determined by the type of inputs on the convertor itself . Most will have S-video or composite on them though .

The only way not to have a second S-video or composite video drop into the 990 . Would be if the 990 can down-convert the DVI signal to composite or S-video output . I don't think it does though .

Also what are you wanting to hook up to the second tv ? If you want cable, dvd or game all connected to the second t.v. you will need to feed seperate outputs for each one into the 990 . I think it will work just fine with seperate drops .

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it would work, but I was concerned that with the amp running a High Def feed through the DVI it would not send a feed through the other video outs. Thanks for the tips, I already have the speaker mounts in the other room with volume controls. I can't wait to hook the whole thing up. With any luck I may be up and running by mid summer.

Thanks again.
Jerome.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page (I may have overlooked this in my original post), you can use an s-video or composite video output to the second display, but you will need to have your inputs connected accordingly. DVI switching is a pure switch with no conversion to or from other signals. The s-video monitor output will get s-video or composite video inputs, composite video monitor output will also get composite video or (I believe) s-video inputs, the zone 2 s-video gets only the s-video inputs, and the zone 2 composite gets only composite inputs. Therefore, you will want to connect an s-video or composite video output from your DVI source to allow the secondary display to also have access to the video.

The S-video and composite outputs get nothing when in DVI mode. I have complained about it to Outlaw but they like many people to complain before they put it on their list. You can get it to give both DVI and S-Video by selecting DVI, then going in the right direction select S-Video but since you cannot see the setup menu without a monitor, this is probably not an option for you.

The Zone 2 outputs are as gonk states and probably your best option. I use S-Video for all my inputs using external converters to get composite. That way the zone2 s-video has all the signals. I convert the S-Video Zone-2 output to composite for distribution to my office.

You can run the audio and video signals through 75 ohm coax. I use RG-6Q for a long run from one end of the house down stairs to my usstairs office.

You can run your S-Video with RG-6Q (two wires EXACTLY the same length) and adaprots that can be purchased. Your composite can run in a single RG-6Q. You can use cheaper coax as well but if you buy 1000 ft is is about 10 cents a ft and you can run your antenna lines and all the audio, video distribution in the same stuff with cheap adaptors.

Don't forget conduit.
If your wall is now still open (i.e. "not yet dry-walled") now is the time. You can always add additional cable that you may not have thought of. Furthermore, your TV at other end of room may change. Might have high-def later on.
It's good to have options.

Also: the larger size, the better, the easier.
And always pull more than you think you need at this time. And always add a "pull-wire" [makes life easier].

Another idea: pre-wire it for phone. You never know.
