If the 990 is just pass'n the digital video through without any processing, does that mean I can pass both HDCP and non-HDCP digital video through the 990?

Yep, that is correct. I have been able to connect an HDCP-compliant cable box to an HDCP-compliant TV successfully as well as a non-HDCP DVD player to the same TV, both without any trouble.

Thanks Gonk!

This one is important for me at the moment since both my HTPC and my DLP projector are over 3 years old and neither of them are HDCP compliant. My projector doesn't have component either, so I currently have no way of viewing HD broadcasts on the big screen since the DVI on the cable box is HDCP compliant.

I must make a decision today whether to purchase the 990 or give up my place in line to another.

Have you actually tried to view DVI inputs from your cable box? I have heard that many cable boxes (or perhaps transmitted signals) don't don't have the HDCP flag activated. Are you saying it is active on HD feeds?

There is a hardware solution around this difficulty for $200. Is it that important to you?

The cable box does do DVI-HDCP - I used it that way for almost a year before the 990 arrived, and if you powered things up slightly off you would get an HDCP error for about 30 seconds. Drove mrs. gonk nuts. And the HDCP flag is activated for any signal output over DVI, not just HD feeds. If it's on, it's doing HDCP.

Sorry to hear that. I checked back in old forum posts and found I was thinking of DirecTV not enabling HDCP--or so they say.

There is still a $200 hardware solution if you want (need) it.

Well, I pulled the trigger this afternoon and placed my order for the 990. Sorry if I bumped anyone off the list, but I must give this beast a try.
