I have not been able to turn my 990 on with the remote. I can turn the 990 off with the remote but in order to turn the 990 on I must turn it on using the Standby button in the front panel of the 990 itself. Is there a setting somewhere that I’m missing? The only information in the manual I’ve found is on pg. 34 just under the word “Power”. I’ve also tried the source buttons on the remote mentioned in the manual but non of them will turn the unit on. Thank you for your help. confused

Hello Leaphart,

First make sure that your remote is set to operate the 990 by pressing the "TNR" button at the top right of the remote (two buttons down from the PWR button). Now, on the bottom of the remote press the button that corresponds to the input you would like the Model 990 to turn on to, for example "DVD". Pressing DVD will turn the 990 on and select DVD as your source automatically.

Leaphart , I thought the same thing. Hit the PWR button and the 990 will go into stand by. One would think that by pushing the PWR button again that you would see the blue lite and know that it is up and running. Then make your selection of CD or DVD or whatever you wanted to control. I must have looked past the directions when setting up the 990 in those first minutes myself.

I too, was at my wits end over this subject, and was about to throw the remote out the door. I looked in the troubleshooting section and found the reference to the TNR button. Also there is no DVD button for device control selection, so I programed AUX.

Good point, Paratrooper. I tinkered with the included remote briefly (although most of the time I've used my MX-500), and I noticed that the AUX device defaults to using the DVD code library, so that's the button to use to control DVD players.

I have a Harmony on the way from Costco. Most of this is just a learning curve, and no way detracts from the fact that the 990 is a Great Pre/Pro.

I understand now and it’s working fine. For some reason I was stuck on pressing the TNR button and then the PWR button with of course no results. I agree with Paratrooper that this is “just a learning curve”. Although I just got my 950 replaced with the new 990 yesterday I am really impressed the 990. The bass management seems to be a big improvement and the auto setup is just awesome. Thanks guys for the help. I love my 990 already!
