I was told to wait till the HE 2005 show as things would start rolling then. I have no sound at all right now and am getting frustrated waiting. Can we not get some kind of idea when we can actually buy and get this thing? Are we talking days, weeks, months or years...

Are you on the reservation list? Some of the feedback I heard from the HE show indicated that the people at the head of the reservation list line would start getting contacted within a week and a half or so after the show, and their units are supposed to be able to ship within a week to ten days after they are contacted. In fact, here's a quote from last week's newsletter ("this coming month" referring to May, since it was written in April):

The Gonkster is, as usual, correct. Are you on the reservation list? If you are, then is seems as though you'll have a 990 very much sooner than later. If you are not, then the sooner you DO get on the list, the sooner you will have a 990.

What's the frustration? The Outlaws told us what their schedule for the 990 would be in the the very first announcement in a newsletter a few weeks ago. They seem to be not only ON schedule, but who knows, maybe even ahead of it! They promised that shipments would start before the end of May, and it looks as though that will happen.

Unlike their past products, and unlike some of the other companies that are about (?) to deliver new processors, the news here appears to be very clear, without any changes or excuses.

Outlaw first gave us a hint of the 990 on April 1st. With in days we were told that this was the real deal and that, in fact they were on board and should arrive with in a time frame of 30 to 45 days. Best guess is the 990's are already warehoused and that we will be able to get them soon. We are all waiting for the confirmation email so we can get our hands on one. I look for a Outlaw update soon.

Just for what it is worth, Peter saw the box of the 990 for the first time when they were packing my 990 up to take home.

I am on the reserve list as of early the day after the list was available. ie 6am Monday morning.

In that case, my master and I share your pain! We're all looking forward to the rollout of the 990 over the next few weeks. Hang in there!

You should try having small children. My pre-amp has been out for 8 months, and I have hardly noticed... of course, my screen is only 96 inches, maybe that makes a difference. (What are you using to do 160? My projector is 1200 lumens and I wouldn't be able to pull that off.)

The new Sony VPL-HS51 (6000:1 contrast ratio)with a short (3ft) component video cable and a completely dark room. I had a 20' cable, but I found it reduced the signal enough that there was a difference in the brightness. Its HDTV, so the size can be a bit deceiving if you are use to NTSC, which 96" is pretty big in that format. I use to have a 96" NTSC screen in my last HT which used a Outlaw 1050, but I sold it with the house.

This screen I think is 78" high. I am using a 1.3 gain screen and the image is killer. Contrast ratio is outstanding. The contrast ratio is so high that in a dark scene you cannot visual figure out where the edge of the screen is if the blacks go to the edge of the screen.
