Does the 990 have all those silly "hall" and "church" sound effects? I really don't want to pay for something I'll never use. Also, anyone know the brand of DAC's used in the 990?

I don't believe that the 990 will have DSP modes like "hall" or "jazz club" - the Model 950 left those off at the near-unanimous request of the forum three years ago, and I've heard no mention of them returning for the 990 or the 1070. As for the DAC's, the FAQ indicates that it is using Analog Devices 1852 24/192 DAC for all channels and Analog Devices 1896 Asynchronous Sample Rate Converter for stereo up-conversion.

Is Analog Devices the brand name of DAC used like burr-brown, etc?

Reading the .pdf on the 1852 DAC shows it's no slouch.

Stupid audio industry.. you always buy something and then 6 months later, an upgrade comes out!

Yes, the Styrofoam cup mod can save you a lot of money, but watch out for the reverb mode, many people have become dizzy and hurt themselves in that mode. Please remain seated while in this mode.
Note: For those not up on the latest technique, this requires you to oscillate your head left and right in a rhythmic pattern with cups installed.

I think the dizziness and injury come from emptying the cups of adult beverages before donning them on ones ears. Not that I have any experience in these matters or anything, ahem.
