Is it just me, or the particular threads I viewed, but are the members of www.avsforum.com not that found of Outlaw products!?

Not to mention the amount of bickering that seems to happen when an Outlaw product is mentioned.

There are more people who spend a LOT of money on gear there. That, and I think there are a few snobs over there and many times a thread is totally ruined by two idiots arguing. It is still a great forum though and gets a lot of traffic.

Ire toward Internet-direct outfits like Outlaw is far from unheard of at AVS, typically from a small but vocal portion of the population. As Doug917 points out, some of AVS's members have very large sums of money invested in their systems and are a bit insecure about alternatives that might offer much the same performance for less money. Equally common for the small population of troublemakers is a separate interest in stirring up trouble, sometimes for no discernable reason. Outlaw has long been a target, as has AV123. I haven't seen a lot of grief directed toward Axiom or SVS, but I'm also not a regular over there.

I tend to rely on AVS as a technical resource and as a place to get user feedback on products from companies that don't offer forums such as this one (I did a lot of research there on my Zenith HDTV, for example). You do need to tweak your signal-to-noise filters at times, and while you can get some good information from the numerous posters with legitimate and in-depth knowledge you also have to watch out for folks who speak as if they are experts when they may not be.

I am also frequent visitor to AVS forums but the biggest difference for me is the level of maturity. Almost all the posters here are very polite and helpful when they can vs. lots of flame wars going on AVS forums. However there are some extremely knowledgeable forum members over there who write some of the most informative messages. It is true though that they generally are not fond of Outlaw products too much. Many of them are one of the most extreme "bass head" people out there. And also many of them are strong supporters for internet direct companies like SVS, Hsu, Axiom but not much for Outlaw products, go figure.

While I've seen some positive commentary about Outlaw there, it definitely seems to lean more towards the negative. It doesn't make much sense to me either....though I agree with Gonk in that it may have something to do with the "buyer's remorse" of folks that have a lot more dollars invested for similar equipment.

I actually looked over AVS' different forums before I committed to buying Outlaw gear. Thanksfully I didn't listen. There is most definitely a bias against Outlaw products. that's not to say that all posts were unfavorable. For the sake of redundancy, I think a vast majority of these people (likely engineers by trade - no offense) have a hard time swallowing the fact that they bought $5,000+ worth of pre/pro only to hear that the 990 is on par with their equipment. Its not easy spending $100,000 on that new Porsche when a $50,000 Corvette does it better for half the price. That'll stick in your collective audio-snob craw I'm sure.

AVS forums is like of the home theater portion of the internet. If you TV isn't of a certain caliber, calibrated specially buy someone who charges you lots of money, in a dedicated room, with the right sheetrock, wiring, lighting, drapes, and all sorts of other stupid little things you're not worthy and how dare you ask a question about using something that doesn't cost $1000 a port.

My $0.02 wink

id disagree that avs forum is that over the top. you just have to take a lot of what you hear there for what its worth, not much. i apply the same here too. this is a manufacturers website, avs is not, therefore people on here naturally will be partial to outlaw as most have some of their products. the main thing i dislike about this website is the redundancy of questions, i am patient and like to offer advice/argue what i think, but to do it repetitively is beyond my patience.
