I haven't heard the AVR 65, but I remember reading about a lot of quality control issues with the 65 (and some other HK gear, including some of their CD changers -- owned an FL-8300 CD changer that ended up giving me some headaches with carousel operation). There were enough of those "problem" comments that I became pretty wary of Harman Kardon's receivers and CD changers. That's all fairly old info, though. I'd probably go with the 1050, myself -- better reliability record and better features.
