Hi
I was wondering what people's thoughts were on me moveing up to a new Outlaw pre-amp and just use my 1050 as an amp. I am not a hi power user.

Using a receiver as an amp is a bit quirky. First, the 1050 has a 5.1 analog input, so you can only use five of the six amp channels. That's sort of minor, though. Similarly minor is control: you can't trigger the 1050 on, and the remote control will conflict with having a separate Outlaw pre-amp beside it. You'll have to cover up the 1050's IR sensor so that it doesn't react to commands sent to the pre-amp. As a result, the only really convenient solution for powering it on/off is to either leave it on all the time or turn it on manually. The bigger quirk is that you will have two volume controls in series. Calibrating the system will require turning the 1050's volume up to some point and leaving it there. I'd probably handle this by setting the processor's volume to 0dB and playing a left or right channel test tone, then adjusting the 1050's volume control until the SPL measurement reaches 75dB. That volume on the 1050 would be the permanent position for the volume control.

Thanks. Sounds like I might just stick with what I've got, I do like it.
