If you are using a surround mode (assuming you skip the "DSP modes" like "Jazz" and such, that means you'll be using Dolby Pro-Logic decoding) when using the VCR, then the bass management will be in operation and will behave the same way as it would with a DVD -- the LFE to the sub, plus whatever bass is re-directed from speakers set to "small" (surrounds, center, and probably even your main speakers). I'm not as sure about what the 1050 does when surround is off, since I've been living without a sub (one of these days that'll change...). I'm 90+% sure that the bass management will still apply, and the low freq from the mains will be re-directed to the sub. I glanced in the manual and didn't find anything that confirmed this for me for certain, but there may be something there that I missed.
I'm not sure if that really answers your question or not ("how can I confuse you today?" -- a favorite saying of one of my coworkers). Have you got any more questions? BTW, have fun with the 1050!
