Only problem I've ever had with the 1050.

I got my 1050 in early 2000.
The ONLY glitch I've experienced -- knock on wood -- has been a fairly recent squirelliness in the volume knob. You really have to push in with vigor to adjust the volume with it.
Works fine with the remote.
I hope this holds up on a par with a McIntosh and ages into a classic.

hello,
yes... my faithful 1050 has a similar problem... the volume knob is "squirrely" in that when i turn it... it kind of jumps around on the volume setting... sometimes no change, then up a few notches at random... not the former tactile click -> half volume tick adjustment.
is there any DIY remedy for this problem? i suspect the knob itself may just be dirty or similar... it'd be nice to fix such a simple problem.
other than that... i love this receiver!

Mine does the same thing (always has) and I've heard from others that their volume control has similar issues. I think your best bet is just to use your remote.

The only problem I've had in five years is the DD EX 6.1 glitch. Easy workaround.

Mine did the skippy volume knob thing from new, but that was the onlt issue I ever had. It added character. If the unit would have been crap it would have been "yet another flaw in a crappy unit" but the 1050 is so good and so solid that the minor flaws are sort of like your favorite uncle with the nervous tick - you just learn to love the tick too.

Yea, my 1050 volume knob has always been squirrely. In fact, it won't go down. But I don't care because I always use the remote anyway. I had it for weeks before I even made that discovery.

I guess you can add me to the list. I haven't been on the board in a few years but the volume knob issue is getting worse and I just popped in to see if I was the only one having this issue. Guess not. Do you guys/gals find that the volume actually goes UP when you're turning it down or vice-versa? Or that you have to find that "magic" speed of the actual turning of the knob for it to do what you're wanting?

I don't think mine has ever done the reverse of what it should. I liked the comment about the "magic speed". I think that descibes it the best.
I've had my 1050 now for...well....so long now that I can't remember how long. (When did they come out?) But I can honestly say that I can count on one hand how many times I've tried to adjust the volume manually. I guess that's a good thing!
I still love the thing and it sounds even better for the last 2 years because of the LFM-1.

I know I bought mine after reading your review, so I guess I bought mine sometime in 2000 as well. I'd love to upgrade, but I have to admit that I can't give the wife a good reason because it still sounds great. (also knock on wood)

Hi, my volume knob just started doing it. My wife was using it and I was in the bedroom watching football. All of a sudden I hear hear music getting louder and louder-I thought what the heck is she doing? I find her and my sister-in-law standing in the room with thier hands over thier ears! No matter how I turned the knob it got even louder! I had to hit the power button to get silience. The sad part of the story is they both yelled at me like it was my fault.
