I have a 5.1 HT system and would like a second zone to distribute stereo sound to other rooms. Could I use 5 channels from the 770 for my 5.1, and the other 2 channels for the second zone? Would I be better off with a 750 plus a separate two channel amp?

Well the 770 would probably be overkill (200 watts)for multiroom audio unless you really plan on cranking up the volume.

On the other hand when the upgrade bug bites (and it will) the 2 other channels will come in handy for 7.1 . Then you could buy a 2 channel for the multiroom later. A bonus is that you will need one less shelf initially.

You could save some money though with the 750 and a used 2 channel amp for around 200-300.

I know that I would be itching to try the 7.1 if my processor had it

I think it would work, but I don't know that I'd want that expensive amp on with 5 channels not running, just to get the other two on. It seems like it would take its toll on the power supplies over time.

I would lean toward the separate 2 channel amp, so you could trigger it on whenever you needed it and not have the 770 on unless it was also in use.

Not to mention the electric bill. I wouldn't be suprised to find that the 770 uses something like 500 watts when idling.
