There is a review of the 950 in the latest WSR (Sept. issue).
It is a very comprehensive review touching on various aspects of our 'favorite' pre/pro in substantial detail.
While the overall conclusion was 'thumbs up', disconcerting to read was that 2 previous test samples failed. One with excessive noise at very high volume, and the other with defective bass management in DTS-ES.
All in all I feel a review all those with an interest in the 950 should read. It will make new owners even more familiar with the 950.
It does reconfirm the 950 only fails to meet all expectations when compared with components selling for much more money.
The same issue has a review of the 7100 amp, and no real surprises there.

It sounds to me as if the writer was recapping the two issues that were a part of the 950's past: the noise issue (resolved MONTHS ago) and the DTS-ES bass issue (resolved a few months ago.)

I haven't seen the issue (and probably won't since I don't find Widescreen Review particularly useful most of the time) but if they said that two units "failed" because of these problems, I wonder if that really is a fair way to characterize the situations.

Well, the tone of the review was more upbeat than that. It did not dwell on the 'problem' units.
I agree, I thought the same thing about the timing of the review, but I am not sure this is the same 'problem' (noise).

But to paraphrase what you said, I wonder if that is really a fair way to characertize the review without reading it. It was quite a long and I thought well done.

Let me add though, if it is an old review, I will gladly write the editor and inform them they are doing a disservice to their readers.
I like the DVD reviews in WSR and also I feel they have the greatest depth on reports regarding the latest technology, and lastly Joe Kane contributes with tips on calibration.

Here's a slightly different take on the review...
