Recently (in the last month) I have been hearing a buzz from the subwolfer connected to my 1050. This happens when my wife is ironing clothes. Every time the iron kicks into a heating cycle the subwolfer buzzes (or hums). This only happens with the 1050 and the subwolfer on. Turning off the LFE in the 1050 has no effect (the sub is connected to the LFE output). Any suggestions as to what has happened to cause this?
Two possible fixes I can think of trying: 1) Don't use the LFE from the 1050, instead use the crossover in the sub and wire the speakers through the sub; 2) Try a power filtering (voltage stabiler) device. Any thoughts about these options?

Wayne has a sure-fire solution, but I might offer a few less ingenious ideas...

If the iron is triggering the problem (as clearly appears to be the case), you are getting noise on the circuit from the iron's electric heating element. The reason that turning off the LFE doesn't help is that the noise is presumably coming into the sub via the sub amp's power cord. I'd try moving the sub to a different circuit than the outlet used by the iron or some sort of power conditioner for the sub.

So why does it not buzz when the 1050 is off?

I have tried different outlets but the room must have everything on one circuit breaker.

If it is the sub (which is certainly possible) then using the sub's crossover probably wouldn't help the problem.

Thanks,

Chris

When the 1050 is off, I would guess that the amp shuts off because it doesn't have any incoming signal (assuming that you have the sub's amp set to automatically power on and off based on the input signal). And I would agree that using the sub's crossover is not likely to help if my suspicion is correct.

When I had my 1050 a similar sub hum problem occurred. If my sub and 1050 were on there was at times quite a loud humming coming from the sub. Strangely it was the worst in the morning; then quieted down later on; but still there. I tried different circuits, cheater plugs and power bar filters. To no avail. Then my 1050 died. I replaced it with a Panasonic digital amp. The problem has gone. No more annoying hum.
