RIght now I will have a 5.1 set up. The Newcascle aside from the annoying resets (which have gotten better) is doing alright. Someone on the 950 board used a Newcastle AVR 9050 before switching to Outlaw and I would like his opinions. ALso if I stay with 5.1 set up what am I gaining besides Dolby Pro Logic II and is that worth the investment. Tomorrow when I am not so sleepy I will have a few more questions on set ups and bass management. Thanks

I replaced an AM-9080 with my Outlaw 950. The straight DD and DTS 5.1 are not going to sound any different. DPLII is a dramatic improvement over standard ProLogic though. If you're running LaserDisc AC-3 you'll need an RF modulator or external decoder. If you're running hi-def 5.1 music you'll be happy with the bass management.

The remote on the 950 is laid out much better than the Sherwood one was.

My Newcastle is also the 9080R, I hit the wrong key and did not catch it. Lack of Bass management with the Newcastle is bothersome as the Sony SACD player does not do a good job with this.

I had an ICBM with my 9080 so bass management wasn't an issue for me. However, it will be a big upgrade for you. Future upgradability to 6/7.1 is nice to have also.

I thought about going the ICBM route, but I have the bug bad so I am going to get a 950. My dealer is having a fit trying to get me to buy the Anthem. But that is a lot of cash for someone who listens to music 80% and TV 20%. And I cross over from a 2 channel system with a theater loop so The Anthem would only be a processor. Too much money.
