I have a problem with s-video and it not displaying color. When I disconnect the s-video and go component out I have color. I though that maybe there was a problem with the s-video jack on my tv or tivo but when I usse the component outs I have color and also when I bypass the 1050 with s-video I also have color so I am pretty sure its the 1050. Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated. The only issue I can think of that I dont thnk is relevent is heat -- but I dont know if that would affect video or anything for that matter. Any input would be great. Thanks

S-video cables have two separate conductors in side them - think of it as a scaled down version of component wedged into a single plug. If you have a cable that has a failed or damaged connection plug or a faulty connection inside one plug, you would potentially experience what you are describing. I'd first try disconnecting and re-connecting each s-video connector (which you may already have done). When you bypassed the 1050 and went straight to the TV, you only used one of the two s-video cables in the signal path through the 1050. Try using the other cable to connect the DVD player directly to the TV - it may be the culprit.

i switch 3 s-vids through my 1050 with no problems,as gonk explained,it's possibly the connector, those pins will bend pretty easily, even with the alignment pin,i've still managed to bend the contacts, upside down at 1am wink

I have had bent pins within the connector before and that is not the problem and I am using quality cables with all the connections so I dont think that it is a faulty cable but I havent had a chance to swap them around so I will try it. I will let you guys know how it goes and I appreciate the replies. But just out of curiosity have there been any issues that you guys know of w/the 1050 that resemble the problem I am having? Any info is appreciated and I hope there isnt an issue with the 1050 -- I like it too much. Thanks -

Be aware that most TV's don't like both S-video and composite hooked up to the same video input. They will interfere with each other so it's one or the other. You mentioned that the composite works ok when you disconnected the S cable but what about the other way around? Does S work when you disconnect the composite cable? If you need the composite hook-up for legacy reasons move it to another input (video 2 for example) if available. If this was a hook-up arrangement that was previously ok working and not a new wiring scheme then the 1050 is suspect but I would double verify the cables and connectors as previously mentioned.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help -- the culprit was the s-video monitor out cable. Very relieved that it was
not a problem with the 1050, but I didnt think it was. The cable was the last I thought it would be because it was a $40 cable. It was a ZU SV-1000 cable if anyone wants to not buy one- I just checked the website and they list for a $100 - I am glad I didnt pay that, but I got it off ebay so I can return it --live and learn $100 non working cable vs. $8 working cable. Anyway thanks again for the posts.

That is I can't return it but thinking about it I am going to see if it will work somewhere else in my set up for some strange reason.

Glad to hear the problem is fixed, at least. Bummer about the cable, though. For what it's worth, I've had good luck with the s-video cables from both Outlaw (the PSSV, which is a very nice and solidly built cable) and Blue Jeans Cables.
