Science, not just mumbo jumbo. Thank you for this reference source. I have a hard copy of the "Maximizing Loudspeaker" white paper, but was unaware of this Harman website.
A point of significant relevance to many recent topics... the author's comments regarding speaker-room bass equalization. He is very clear about the need for a minimum 1/10th octave analysis and the use of parametric EQ as a reliable method of improving bass response. He is very critical of the use of 1/3 octave RTA's and band EQ's, as they can not properly diagnose the problem, or adequately provide a remedy. He also indicates that proper EQ of the bass frequencies does not create the phase inequities that many fear, but in fact tend to improve phase coherence.
It appears that in the opinion of the author, the challenge of Bass equalization is well worth the trouble, if it is done well.
