I just received my 950/7100 combo and hooked up everything. The output of the 950 DVD section is configured for DTS. I also had a copy of Avia for calibration that i used before on my Onkyo TXSR 8000 with no problem. I wanted to show the dolby digital feature of Avia and then selected that portion on the Avia DVD. All i could hear was the background music and samples of Dolby. I had to switch the 950 to stereo mode in order to hear the dialog that explained the feature of Dolby digital. As soon as i was trying to select dolby D on the 950 the dialog disapeared.
What can the the reason for that

Sounds like you're missing the center channel signal.

That is what i thought but when i play 5 channel stereo or engage the test tone the center channel is playing fine so ..i do not know why he won't engaged in dolby. I found a similar problem with the DVD audio from the Eagles. The first parts where they talk and tell the story about their reunion tour, the dialog portion is not playing in DTS mode mut as soon as the concert start everything is fine

Have you compared the center channel output of:
a) passing the signal digitally to the 950 from the player
vs
b) analog (the 5.1 analog inputs)
Might give a clue as to where the problem is. When you do have the problem, do you hear anything out of the center channel then? I take it the 950's test tones are OK.

I did not have any test tone from center channel. I reset the 950 and everything went fine.

Apilon.
Do you have multi-channel analogue cables hooked up from your SACD player? Then use your 6-channel direct button. Just be aware you need to consider your bass management options generally most people (unless your speakers are full range all around) will need that switch (on the back of the 950) set to ON.
For TV/ SAT, I move around a little but 90% prefer for my default, DPLIIC+CR(either C or M) depending upon what I’m listening too. I never seem (latly) to get time to play with it. Don’t forget for your DPLII listening you can also tweak the base DPLII parameters in the 950' setup.

Well my 950 is only set for 5 channel right now so i do not have access to Cirrus extra. The way i have hook up my system i can either watch the tv thru the vcr or thru the digital cable box which is connected with coax digital. When i watch channel in this digital mode my 950 is configured for dolby digital and it is set for 5 stereo channel when listening thru the vcr

Lots of your digital cable is still going to be sent to you in 2-channel only. Get used to playing with your SM buttons on the 950 remote. You’ll rarely get DD and then sometimes very often its 2.0 (VS) 5.1.
Through your VHS, I’d still try playing with DPLII modes. The only time I use 5/6 stereo is if the soundtrack really does not give DPLII anything at all to work with and I’m watching a Bbuster type movie and want to fake myself out with some general Surround Noise.
In 5 stereo you’re repeating 2 channels into all your surrounds. In DPLII (if it’s recorded in a certain way) you actually get steering to various speakers (closer to multi-channel discreet stuff).
A good example of a movie you’ll reap great benefits from using DPLII is “Frequency”, it was playing on my Satellite at different times for a month recently. DPLII steered this thing so well, I was amazed, even though the feed was stereo. I watched portions of the movie on a couple of different days just listening to how well the 950 handled it.
