Does the analog bypass automatically set the mains to large and turn the sub off or does this have to be done manually? My sub is on preorder right now and I'm just trying to figure out some issues beforehand. While I will certainly use the sub during movies and MC music, I don't really have a desire to use it for 2CH critical listening. The manual doesn't say much about the bypass so I thought I'd ask here.

TIA!

Alex

The stereo analog bypass always provides a full-range signal to the mains. If the mains are set to "small," the 950 will also send the produces a signal for the sub using the crossover point selected for the mains.

So if my mains are set to "small" and I hit the analog bypass my mains will then receive full range info (as if set to large) and my sub will receive info below the x-over, essentially doubling the bass?

Exactly. That is one of the two "double bass" scenarios with the 950.

Thanks gonk. What is the second "double bass" scenario?

The 5.1 analog input with the bass management switch set to "off" -- in which case, the five full-range channels are untouched, but the sub gets information below 80Hz from those channels in addition to the LFE signal. I wrote up a summary of the different bass management scenarios here in my 950 review a while back.
