The Sony remote has separate chapter up/down buttons and FF/rewind buttons, so holding down the chapter buttons (which I would have also tried) should not work. The 1050's remote does not have separate "chapter/track" and "FF/rew" buttons - it's been a few years (like about 3) since I used that remote, but I think with my Panasonic that the channel up/down buttons acted as chapter controls and the transport keys' "<<" and ">>" buttons acted as FF and rew. Have you tried the channel up/down buttons? It's possible that the two functions are reversed in this case for some reason.
