Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can't seem to get the pre amp outs to transmit a signal to my tv. At least I am speculating. I hooked the RCA cables between the TV and 1050 and nothing comes out of the TV. Any other ideas for feeding the audio from the 1050 to a TV would be appreciated too. I am trying to hook all my componenets to the 1050 and run 1 video/audio feed to the TV.

Thanks

I'll see if I can give you some help. Two thoughts come to mind, plus one general comment...

First, I will assume (just to cover all the bases) that the TV has a stereo audio line in on it. If that is not the case, we'll need to back up a good long way.

Second, the level of the preamp outputs is regulated by the 1050's volume control, and the line inputs on a TV will be regulated by the TV's volume control. Because of this, using the preamp outputs will tend to leave you with a very reduced signal coming to the TV's input, which it may not be able to do anything with. The preamp outputs are meant to go directly to a power amplifier, which does the heavy lifting without any other adjustments - and that doesn't really match what happens with the TV's line inputs. If you are using the 1050 to switch sources for the TV, you may have greater luck using the audio output for the VCR or tape (tape may be most convenient, in case you have a VCR in the system already). These outputs pass the unadjusted signal from the active input, which the TV could them control more readily. One caveat here, however - these outputs (unlike the preamp outputs) do not pass digital audio signals, so if you have a DVD player, CD player, or other source with a digital audio cable connecting it to the 1050 you will need to swap that cable out for a pair of analog audio interconnects.

Based on what you have said so far, this is a somewhat unusual configuration for a receiver like the 1050 - in essence, it appears that you are using it only as an A/V switch for the TV. The 1050 is certainly up to the task, but it is capable of a lot more - even just adding a pair of inexpensive bookshelf speakers (like the Paradigm Atoms or Titans or the Axiom M2i\'s , as a couple of examples) and allowing the 1050 to act as audio source (switching, volume control, and amplification) and video switch would give you a really nice upgrade in sound.

Gonk,

Thanks for the help.

I have a complete hometheater setup including all the speakers. I was attempting to still use the TV speakers. I wanted the same audio to go through both the stereo and to the TV and only need to switch the source on the 1050 to make them the same. That way I could choose between using the TV and/or Stereo audio depending on needs. (If my wife is home or someone is sleeping type situation).

The TV is the Sony KDF50WE655. I could route everything through the TV, but the only way to get the audio outs to work is to turn off the TV speakers, defeating the purpose of the AND onfiguration. But I guess it does implement the OR.

Thanks again for the help.

I think I see what you are going for. One drawback to using the pre-amp outputs is that they are not only affected by the 1050's volume control but also by the "mute" command - so muting the home theater speakers at the 1050 would also mute the pre-amp outputs, leaving the TV with nothing. (This, even more than the reduced level of the pre-amp outputs, may be what you've been running into.) The record outputs are independent of the mute command, so you could mute the 1050 and still get a signal to the TV that way.

The only hiccups here that I can see from just mulling it over in my head are (1) avoiding having the TV's speakers playng all the time and (2) needing analog connections for any sources you plan to listen to this way. I'm not sure how your TV works, so I don't know what alternatives might exist to deal with the first issue. The easiest is probably to turn the TV's volume all the way down to 0 except when listening through it, but that's not the most graceful approach. The second problem is relatively easy to fix, if somewhat messy - grab some cheap interconnects from Radio Shack for any digital audio sources you have and add to the maze of cables already on the back of your equipment rack.

Best of luck with it. I'd be curious to know what you end up doing.
