My feeling and most of the respondents agree that the older monoblocks or 2 channel amps by Adcom are seemingly indestructable. It is the 5 channel THX HT amp that was my problem be it the least of my problems....it operates perfectly now. It's the GTP-760 pre/pro that makes me regret my choice of Adcom .

I use 3 Adcom amps in my system. A GFA-5800(250 x 2) powers my main speakers. A GFA-5503(200 x 3) powers my center and rear speakers. A GFA-5400(125 x2) powers my 6/7.1 speakers. I have been very happy with this configuration. Lots of SLAM with very dynamic sountracks. The GFA-5800 also is a very good sounding stereo amp. I replaced a Sony TA-e9000es ver. 2.01 with a Outlaw 950 to be able to play sacd and dvd-audio discs and to have the analog pass through. I love the 950, but the sound on my system is a notch more forward when compared with the Sony. This is not a bad thing to me, but just an example how changing any link in the chain can affect overall sound quality and how the amps are just playing whats being fed to them.
