Why no distance setting for setting up sub? Sub weighs almost 100lb and is quite a task moving sub around for a good blend.

I had the same question, at first.

Moving your sub around, in addition to taking care of phase issues, also helps with room-boundary induced peaks and valleys in its response.

For phase alone, just use the phase switch, knob, or inverted input on the back of the sub. That control should be in the position where you hear the most bass.

Most subs don't have any kind of phase switch, nor will some let you invert the input. I have a Velodyne sub. There's no switch, and you can't switch the input cable (because there's a second cable used for "feedback"). For this reason I was so glad that I didn't have the phase problem that you do.

SoP- Every sub I've had has had some kind of phase control on the back: Velodyne HGS-10, HGS-12, FSR-15, and now a Vandersteen V2W. Most that I've seen reviewed also have it. Which Velodyne do you have?

All the Velo's I have had have variable phase knobs on the rear panel. What model do you have?

It not a phase problem it is a distance problem. The sound from the sub is either to early or late. I have moved to about the same distance as front speaker. My sub is HSU vtf3 which has a phase switch on it. When I had my Marantz AV9000 my sub was 13 feet from my sweet spot and my front speaker were 10 feet and I was able to set sub distance to 13 feet and it blended perfect. I have not been able to do it with my Outlaw 950.

I've got a pair of F1200's that have two adjustments, crossover frequency and volume. No adjustment for phase.

I have a ULD-18, there is no phase switch. Only that can be changed is the level (volume).

fatate- The phase knob/switch takes care of *distance* within approx plus/minus 1/2 a wavelength of the crossover freq. (80 Hz for example, 13.75 ft/wavelength, so a 180 deg phase switch would adjust for about 6.667 ft of placement variation between the speakers and sub. That's why I prefer variable phase knobs: you can adjust exactly. ) All the phase knob/switch does is to move the peak of the waveform forward or backward in time so that it can overlap that of the mains where they crossover. (Not really "forward" in time, but hopefully you get the idea.)

SoP- I guess Velodyne figure out they needed them after yours was built. If you don't have the problem, then nothing to worry about.
