The last time I listened to a multichannel disc, my SACD of Miles Davis' "Kind Of Blue" it was fantastic. Today I tried to listen to the new "Dark Side Of The Moon" disc and I get nothing but front L/R out of it. I am using two Radio Shack A/V switchers to switch between SACD, DVD-Audio, and an old DD decoder for LaserDisc (since the 950 has no RF in). They've all worked perfectly since I got the 950. All of the sudden today - poof - Front L/R only for all external multichannel sources. Tomorrow I'm going to dig in to the cable mess behind my rack to try to see what's going on, but unless gremlins have come in and reconfigured my system I can't imagine that anyone has touched any of the cables back there. Has this happened to anyone else??

Philip,
You’ve prob tried this but just in case.
I've found these disc (don't have SACD yet just DVD-A) can be different one to another on how to pull up the version you want.

I believe DSOTM is a hybrid, check to make sure you are not just playing the 2-channel version.

Ooooo, I think I know this one!

Philip, remember, that before you switch to the 6 ch input, you *do* have to be in a 5.1 digital mode or you *only* will get the front 2 channels (if you're switching from stereo for example).

Or else it will be the particular section of the disc you're listening too like what SLL said.

(I know that in my player's config, I have it set to default to the 2 channel SACD feed. I still don't have a lot of faith yet in multi-channel music mixes. But this is certainly a disc to check it out on...)

OOOOOO... I think KCB is right.
This remedy also includes switching from 5/7 channel Stereo mode to make sure the 6 channel input gets fully engaged.

That would explain it. I was definitely in stereo mode before I switched to the 5.1 in. That's a pretty bad mis-feature - doesn't make any sense. Will the new firmware fix this "feature"?

Thanks Outlaws! I really didn't want to go back in to the back and check the wires that have been working great for months.

This is the disc that has me saving for the release of the Denon 2900 universal player.

I posted a quick review of the DSOTM SACD in the "Favorite Demos" saloon. I really like the sound of the disc and the way the surrounds are utilized.

I'm also using a Sony DVP-NS500V which I think is one of the best audio bargains I have found. (Besides Outlaw that is )

The DSOTM Multichannel is nifty. The multichannel is very stereo soundfield biased. For the most part there are no major instruments utilized in the surrounds. Sometimes the guitar or keyboard solo finds its way there, but for the most part it's only sounds effects and instrument effects. It's nice.

though i've never been much of a pink floyd fan, this disc is a classic.

in one or two places, the guitar sounds a bit thin.

in all other places...this disc is superb. there is detail i'm betting no one has ever noticed before.

the opening 20ish hz heartbeat is definitely done with some sort of octaver. i never heard the full depth of it before.

the use of LFE is very well done throughout the record (i have a signal indicator light that lets me know when the LFE track is being used).

the clocks are amazing.

lots of tiny voices are incredibly audible (i finally get to understand what the hell they are saying after all these years).

the flow of the album is is so much better in multi-channel and the tunes still stand up after 30 years.

i don't understand why alan parsons wasn't hired to do the surround mix...i think the guy is a genius in his own right.

nevertheless...

this is a must-have multi-channel disc...period.
