Hello,

I now have a DVD player that offers 2 channel DVD-Audio. Do I connect the analog
ouputs (r and l) from the player to the CD input or to the R/L 5.1 direct inputs on the 1050?

Thanks!

either would work. if you put them in cd, then youll have to play your dvds via the cd mode though :-). if you use dvd input then make sure when watching movies that you will be getting input from digital and not r/l inputs only.

If you want to get the most benefit from this, connect the outputs to the right and left inputs of the 5.1 direct -- this input bypasses all A-D conversion, processing, and D-A conversion inside the 1050, which will preserve the full resolution of the original signal.

Thanks for your responses, curegeorg and gonk.

Before starting this thread, I was of the understanding that using the 5.1 inputs was my only option with 2ch DVD-A.

If I understand correctly, I can safely use either CD input or 5.1 direct on my 1050. Furthermore, if I use the L/R 5.1 direct as input, I will lose subwoofer and bass management, but will gain a more pure signal - am I correct on all of this?

Thanks again!

You are correct. The left and right analog outputs from your player can be connected to any stereo analog input on the 1050, but those inputs will be converted from analog to digital, have DSP processing applied (if any is enabled for that input) and bass management applied, and the converted back to analog. The left and right inputs of the 5.1 direct input can also be used and will preserve the player's analog output all the way through the receiver, at the expense of surround processing and bass management.
