Since the 1050 only has 2 digital optical connections and 1 digital coax connection... is it possible to convert a digital optical cable to digital coax?

Here's my problem...

DVD = Digital Optical
DirecTivo = Digital Optical
Xbox = Digital Optical

None of these has the option to use a Digital Coax connection! I don't want to run my Xbox analog... what can I do? Switching cables manually is not a choice and switching them with a switch box is out the window as well. I just bought a component switch box and am not about to shell out more money for an optical switch box now. lol

Help!

Thanks.

Just went to the site where I bought my component switch box from and found they actually sell a converter to go from Optical to Coax! $19... Gonna order this when they open.

AV Toolbox POF-830 if anyone else is interested in it.

Cool find. That looks to be the same as the coax to optical and optical to coax converters available at Parts Express. Pretty similar prices, too -- PE's about $2 less.

I got the converter and tried it this weekend... no good.

Either the 1050 can't handle a step down, or the converter just didn't work. I don't know. All I know is, it kept dropping out so much worse than the Harry Potter DVD! lol

I connected the Xbox direct to the optical connection and it worked like a charm, but going through the converter it didn't work.

I then tried my DVD player... same result, sound drop-outs constantly.

I am returning not only the converter, but also my component switch box. I am now getting an Audio Authority 1154 switch box which switches both component and optical! Had to order one more Outlaw PDO to be able to hook everything up though.

Should hopefully have everything by Friday and have it all running by Saturday.

I'm pretty sure that others have used those converter boxes with 1050's, so I suspect that you are most likely correct that you got a bad converter. Bummer... Hopefully the component/optical switcher will get you on track.

Yeah, just wasn't worth the hassle of returning the converter to then find out later it wouldn't work for me and still having to end up getting the Audio Authority 1154 in the end...
