First I want to thank all who reply to my post ahead of time, it's a great asset to have a company like Outlaw run a forum where others can help and advise fellow Outlaw consumers. I am in the process of upgrading my audio/video set up. The Outlaw 1050 seems the perfect receiver for what I plan on doing with it, approx. 70% music/ 30% HT.. I ordered a pair of Paradigm Studio 20v3 speakers. But a couple questions if I may..(Sorry if they seem dumb )
1. Can I set surround to anything I want when watching DVDs or using our Digital Cable, I see there are a couple surround modes and wondered if the receiver automatically sees this and will not let you use others...
2. Are there bugs I should look for when I do receive the 1050 (NAD T7xx series is full of reports of clicking when volume is increased or decreased, also firmware problems)..
3. Is anyone here using the 1050 to drive Paradigm Studio 20v3 speakers and if so what is your opinion of the 1050/Studio 20v3 combo??

3. I don't have the Studio v3 speakers, but I drove Studio 60v2, Studio CCv2, and a trio of Studio ADPv2 speakers with the 1050 very comfortably back when I had my 1050.

2. Will you be in stereo mode only, or will you have surround speakers as well? There is one issue currently giving some users trouble. On certain DVD's with a particular flag for Dolby Digital EX, the 1050 is forced into its Surround 6.1 mode (or, if there is no surround back speaker enabled, the audio drops out every few seconds as the flag forces it to try to adjust).

1. It's been a while, but as I recall there was some control available. The manual may list exceptions -- for example, a Dolby 5.1 soundtrack may allow stereo mode but not Natural or Jazz surround modes...

When you have a DD 5.1 or DTS track, the 1050 disables the DSP modes (natural, stadium, jazz...) and outputs the surround sound as recorded. You can still use stereo, 3channel or phantom modes as these compensate for lack of speakers in the missing positions. If you really want to use the DSP modes, you can use the analog 2-channel output from your DVD. But why you would want to do that is beyond me.
