There used to be a thread in "DVD-A ... SACD" or something with this in there.

At least one person said they had checked the phase and that on their system the following two items were in phase on the 950:

1) coax/optical digital input using digital bass management in the 950
2) 5.1 analog input using the 80 Hz analog crossover

Remember, what I found in my system was that the above 2 were *out* of phase. Up until that point, I had been only using a CD with discrete test tones on it. So I could comment on LPCM but not DD/DTS specifically.

Now I can.

This disc has DVD-V and DVD-A test tracks on it:

http://www.chesky.com/catalog/body_catalogdtl.cfm?PRODUCT=100274&CATEGORY=2

The comparision is the DD tracks using the coax input on the 950 vs 6 ch bypass with the DVD-A tracks.

I still get that the phase is out 180 deg. If I adjust coax Dolby Digital for in phase, the analog DVD-A is out of phase, and vice versa.

Has to do with using digital BM for DD, vs the 80 Hz analog crossover for DVD-A. Presumably, the induced phase shift for the sub is different between the 2.

No biggie as long as you are aware of it. Maybe the Outlaws can keep this in mind for the 950 Mk II, or its Big Brother whenever it comes out...

this is the kind of post i think does a great deal to increase the overall quality of the home theater owner's enjoyment in his/her investment.

i have verified your results and now, when i switch from digital surround to sacd, a simple flip of a switch makes the subwoofers perform properly at the listening position. otherwise, i just might have thought the bass was lacking in the format or that the 950 was at fault.

i wanted to let you know...i appreciate your posts on this subject.

BoB- Thanks!

I have learned so much here and on HTF, that it's really nice when I can contribute something too.

Thanks for the test disc info. If anyone else needs an excuse, there's still a 20 % holiday discount in effect.
