Got the email today that said after I respond I could have an exchange unit shipped to me within 10 days or I can send mine out to be upgraded which would take about 2-3 weeks. Hate to be without one that long but don't know if I want a rebuilt, know this sounds crazy but if it came with scratches etc it would always bother me & I know how I took care of mine since I received it. What is most other people doing. Got to say Outlaw is one great company, the products are really great & their customer service is fantastic. They take great strides with the product & customer satisfaction.

I had the same concerns when I talked to Peter Tribeman (Head Outlaw) about this very issue. He assured me that the replacements would be basically new looking. If you aren't satisfied with the replacement, I would talk to them about it, and see how you can be accommodated.

I'll toss in my take on the "rebuild" issue. I have actually ended up with three different 950's in the last year or so -- two of them "rebuilt" units (one to fix the drop-out bug, one a test of the red-dot hiss fix). Both "rebuilt" units have been indistinguishable from the first unit. Granted, this is no guarantee that all rebuilt units will be completely devoid of bumps or scrapes, but I'd say it is very, very rare for the rebuilds to show any wear of any sort.

I'm not sure what term best fits; saying "rebuilt" is sort of a way of hedging my bets. Apparently, the modifications are not all that extensive (at least that's the impression I've gotten from the newsletters), and at least in the past I believe that the modified units have been factory new units (not refurbished/returned units), so I don't know how accurate it is to describe them as rebuilt.

From what I can gather the exchange units are what others returned for exchanges so when I send mine back for an exchange you might be getting my original after they update.

I haven't heard an official parts count for the modification, but someone posted previously that there were many parts (newer, better parts?) in the new version.

Anybody know what the differences are in the new version?

Just speculation, but a good part of the parts cost is probably the case and other non-affected boards/components. If the update involves new op-amps I'm wondering if it would even pay to have some poor sap with a soldering iron do a part swap or just do a board swap....

The modification includes swap-outs of some ICs and resistors. These are surface mount devices, and I assume the boards are re-worked in big batches and put into existing chassis.
