I've not heard of that particular problem, but in any case it should NOT be that way if the DVD player is anywhere near compentently designed. I would suspect that newer players would be better in every respect to the early ones.

What kind of pi do you serve with margaritas?

I would guess a light, refreshing pie such as Key West Lime Pie or something similar so as to not overwhelm the tast of the margaritas. I think that 3.14159... margaritas per slice of pi is a nice combination.

Optical vs coax syncing:

I've never heard that either. In fact, I had a one player, where due to a change in other components, I had to switch from coax to optical (even though I personally prefer coax); didn't notice any difference at all.
