Hi All,

I recently bought an SACD player, I have it cabled up to the 5.1 direct inputs of my 1050.

I only have 2 SACD's at this point. One is Multi channel (Dark Side of the Moon), and the other is stereo SACD (Peter Gabriel - Security).

When playing the stereo SACD, I am not getting any sound out of my subwoofer, everything works fine on the multi-channel disc. I have gone through the owners manuals several times, on both the SACD player (Pioneer DV 45) and the 1050, can't seem to find what the problem could be. I have tried every setup option combination (I think).

Yes, I have the 1050 in 6.1 mode, which is supposed to enable bass management (and it does solve the sound drop out problem I was having with Harry Potter. This is an added bonus, I returned the movie 3 times).

So.. any ideas? Need more details?

Thanks

Actually, I don't think that there is anything wrong with your setup. There should not be any sound from the sub for stereo SACD's (unless the Pioneer includes some bass management for SACD playback, which I don't know that it does -- digging through Pioneer's site for the manual now). Stereo SACD's only contain information for the left and right channels, so the subwoofer would remain unused. The 1050's 5.1 direct inputs are a pure analog pass-through, with no processing applied, so all you get is volume control and amplification. The Pioneer DV45 does include bass management for the onboard DD/DTS decoder, but I'm not sure if it functions with with DVD-Audio and SACD playback. Judging from an old manual I had handy, the original DV47A's bass management worked only for DD and DTS decoding (for DVD-Audio discs, the player automatically sets all speakers to "large"), so it's entirely possible that the 45 behaves teh same way.

You might wanna try boosting your subwoofer output either at the 1050 or at your subwoofer. I have a few SACDs, I forget the titles off hand, that I need to add about 5dB more gain to the sub to get any bass sound.

By the way, doesn't DSOTM rock?!?!?

I figured out what the problem was. The DVD player has a speaker setup section, I had all the speakers configured to Large. Once I changed them to small, viola the SW was thumping away.

I went through these config settings before and thought I set them to small, I must have exited incorrectly and they didn't get saved. It would be nice if the Pioneer users guide made some kind of mention of this. It doesn't go into the speaker set up at all as I recall.
