I have noticed that when I try to play any of my Star Trek Next Generation DVDs that the 1050 selects BOTH Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic formats in the display (it also puts the little pointer next to the DD indicator) and I am unable to turn on the 6.1 processing. If I put in other DD DVDs, the 1050 selects DD and turns on 6.1. I am using the optical inputs on the 1050.

Anyone else have the Star Trek Next Generation set and see this phenomenon?

I've only got First Contact (assuming we're talking about the movies here -- the first season's due out in March). I have watched it before using 6.1 without problem. If it's displaying both DD and DPL and will not let you use 6.1, I'd check first to see if the DVD defaulted to Dolby 2.0 instead of 5.1 (a lot of discs with both 2.0 and 5.1 tracks default to 2.0 because that track generally decodes better for receivers that only have DPL). A Dolby 2.0 soundtrack would be Dolby Digital, but would also rely on DPL decoding to get surround. It also would not be able to use the 6.1 decoding.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. I'll check to see if the movies are defaulting to DD 2.0. I thought I checked that though but I'll check again.

Dave.

Gonk,

You were right!

The default for the Star Trek Next Generations series is Dolby Digital 2.0 thus causing the 1050 to use the DPL processor.

Why would anyone buy movies on DVD, hookup thru a digital audio input and then only listen to 2.0 format. What a waste.

Anyway thanks for the help.

Dave.
