If your crossover is symmetrical.

One should set the xo point one octave above the netural rolling off of the speaker, this would make the speakers, accoustic roll off "slope" quiet irrelevant IMO.

By the way, this only accounts for the high-pass side of the xover.
>What are you doing about the low-pass side?
>How are you calculating the low-pass value?
>How are you going to match the low-pass value with mains, center and surrounds that each have different low frequency rolloff characteristics?

What makes a zero degree phase offset, -24dB Linkwitz-Riley symmetrical xover so desirable, is it's ability to smoothly make the xover transition at lot's of different xover frequencies (read many different types of speakers) without causing big mismatches in the frequency response or peaks at the xover frequency.

I purchased 5 drive-in speakers from Drive-ins.com and use them all around my home theatre. They avoid the whole cross-over issue, and don't seem to mind deep bass. Plus, they are _really authentic_! Corbin makes a couch that is the back seat from a Buick or something - YEAH!!!!

That must be a blast,,, especially if you were screening “Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion” . I cried when a storm came and knocked out power for miles just as the lead-in cartoon rolled. My mother has a pic of the four of us kids sitting around an oil lamp, after the movie was cancelled. It is a pretty grim sight; - I never did get to see ‘Clarence’ at the drive-in.

I could not sit next to speakers like that without my mothers paper grocery-store sack full of 3 skillets volume of real-butter (not margarine, - and tons of salt) popcorn to get the ‘mood’ just right.!

Lena:

I watched the black and white "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" the other night with the drive-in speakers. Greasy pizza, a little wine......

"a little wine......"
Thats the fun of being grown-up enough to put drive-in speakers in your HT. Mom would have never let us get away with wine. We weren’t Catholic. (Though it prob. would have done wonders for getting us to go to sleep faster).

The problem with drive-in speakers is finding a suitable subwoofer

Do they make it so that it can be mounted on a pole?
