My Toshiba normally doesn't have a problem switching to bitstream during a movie but it doesn't always let me switch to 6ch analog in the middle of the movie. Also on most toshibas you can hit the audio button on the remote and it will let you select from the available audio tracks on the disc, you may have been outputing prologic from the disc.
