Halo there. I'm experiencing a humming on the 1050 LFE port. Anybody experiencing the same problem? Or, any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? Thanks, Ed.

It sounds like you got the dreaded ground loop in your system. There are a bunch of different ways to chase this down.

1) Make sure all your equipment that's connected to the 1050 is in the same outlet. That way, at least to my understanding, you should be using a common ground.

2) Unplug your inputs one by one and see if one of these is causing the hum.

3) Try to keep your audio cables and power cables from overlapping. If they have to cross, try to make them cross at right angles.

I have a TV input that works off a splitter that makes my system hum. If I unplug that one connection, the hum goes away. Hopefully your issue is that simple. Good luck!!

If your sub is using a plate amp, it more than likely is the plate amp. I used to have my sub connected to an old reciever for power; no hum or residual sound. Went to a sub plate amp and there was hum and residual sound. Apparently a lot of the plate amps are very prone to this and are basically poorly made compared to good receiver amps. I'm thinking of getting the Outlaws mono block amp to drive my sub.

I had two ground loops.

The most noticeable portion, was caused by the cable system. It went away after I hooked the cable input to a surge protector. I later had the cable company make sure the cable was properly grounded into the house and which solved that problem so I didn't need the surge protector connection.

I had a second less noticable ground loop that appears when my power amp (I use the 1050 for center and rear only) is connected to ground at all. This is strange, since there isn't a direct connection between the power amp and the subwoofer. The 1050 feeds different preout connections to both the amp and my internally powered velodyne subwoofer. I used one of the old 3-2 prong adaptors to do this. On the power side, I feed them both into the same surge protector (which is grounded).

Finally got it isolated. I got a filter by Hefner Labs (http://www.hefnerlabs.com). Works like a champ. No more hum. Thank you to you all that have replied my posting.
