I was wondering if anybody has been successful in utilizing the volume "punch-through" feature of the 950 remote. It doesn't seem to work for me. When I try to un-program the punch-thru feature, the LED does not behave as it says it will in the manual, either. I have a Marantz 2000 remote which is proving pretty useless in learning the 950's commands. I read on another thread that it can't learn the source selection button codes from the 950. Oh well....

soundhound, I remember some discussion about this "punch through" months ago. Try doing a search of the posts. I think Gonk had some info about it. Hope this helps. DmC

I don't know if you are having the same problem I had when I first got my 950, but just in case you are I'll offer my experience. The first time I tried to set up punch-through, I read page 39 of the manual and misunderstood the first step -- I pressed "AUD" and "MUTE" together, then "VOLUME UP", then "AUD" -- which assigned volume punch-through to the AUD device (so it punched through to itself, which I suspect the remote just ignored entirely). I didn't catch my mistake until later. I needed to assign the punch-through for each separate device (DVD, TV, CD, ...) -- so for punch-through from the CD, I had to press "CD" and "MUTE" together, then "VOLUME UP", then "AUD" (so it would use the volume control for the AUD device). ------------------ gonk -- Saloon Links | Pre/Pro Comparison Chart | 950 Review

Thanks for the info. I did it exactly like you did - per the manual - and probably got the same the same non-result. I'll try it like you suggest, going through all the other components, then AUD. That's what I get for being a nice boy and performing RTFM !!!

Any recommendations on a universal remote that works well with the 950? My Marantz 2000 doesn't learn the 950 codes, so it looks like time to upgrade. The 950 remote doesn't, well, exactly meet my needs....

Answered my own question. Remote Central.com has the full CCF (config file) for the Pronto. So the Outlaw 950 works with the Pronto line. Here's the link to the CCF file RemoteCentral.com------------------ [This message has been edited by Trekkie (edited September 18, 2002).]

The HTM MX-500, a great hard button remote. I like it. Or, maybe take a look at the MX-700.

I did manage to get the Marantz RC2000 (MKII) to recognize the commands on the 950 remote. I believe the only changes between the first model and the MKII is more memory and added buttons. During my first attempt, the RC2000 would learn all the commands except the SAT button (which consistently gave me the NG message). I tried again the other night in a "very well lit room" and the RC2000 finally accepted the code. I know external lighting plays a role in transfering IR remote commands successfully but I am not sure how. Anyway, try again in good lighting and see if it works better for you.
