If I reserve today for the 950/770 combo, about how long should I have to wait for this?

Meaning is it weeks, or months? Just wanting to make sure I keep my money handy but also would want to put it to use somewhere else if I don't need it for a month or two as well.

Also, How does this compare to the Sony TA-E9000ES? This is what I have currently. I was wanting the upgrade for the 7.1 Surround capabilities since more and more DVDs are coming with it. I will be hooking this up to the Klipsch Reference speakers (RF-3, RC-3, RS-3, and I guess two new RS-3s)

Thanks

Tom

Tom,
Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk! I grew up outside of Overland Park and went to KU for two years before finishing up at UNLV. Good to see a fellow Jayhawker.
I would say the wait will be around a month at best (if there are a lot of dropouts in the list) but most likely around 2 months. I have never heard the Sony but I have heard very positive things about it. I use Klipsch with my 950 and I don't think you will be disappointed.

Trekkie,
Outlaw is tearing through the reservation list alot more quickly than I thought they would. I would GUESS about a month or so. Certainly not multiple months. You can have the 770 right now.
Merc, I believe, can tell you about the Sony unit you asked about.
I'm putting the 950/770 with the Klipsch set up as well.

Actually, I only heard a TA-E9000es pre/pro in a dealers showroom, and it was quite a while (and software versions)ago, so I really CAN'T comment on this pre/pro in its' current iteration.

I can talk about the TA-P9000es, but that is not what you were talking about...

Sorry I couldn't be of some help!

I'm only on v1.18c. I'm hoping the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) can be glossed over, it'll be hard to explain the upgrade (mainly because, of course, it'll require more speakers, and better DVD Player :P)

T- I have a TA-E9000ES and will be checking out a 950 to swap for it.

I would hope there isn't much difference in sound quality, because I'm mostly happy with the Sony in that regard (2.01).

But similarly, I'm doing it for the "new" stuff: 5.1 analog inputs with bass management, DD EX, DTS-ES, DPL II, CES modes, etc.

Sounds good. Have you thought of a fair price to ask to sell your 9000 at? I was thinking with the amp, maybe $1700 or so. Mines about 3 years old. Still has 2 years on the warranty.

Trekkie that's a tough one. I'd be including the VUCD-E9000A kit (2.01 with new remote, CD-Rom, cable). Also, I plan on sending mine back to Sony to make sure that I don't have problems after I've sold it (i.e., I have 1.25 years left on the warranty, but there have been 3 service bulletins about IC's getting hot adding noise, and a wrong-size resistor on the board). Plus I still have copies of the original Audio Magazine and Stereo Review reviews from way back then that I'd include. I also did get the problem with the original remote eating batteries fixed too.

If you go here, JamesB emailed me PDF's of the service bulletins.

Honestly, if I can get $500 for it, I'd be happy. But looks like they go for anywhere from $600 up to $900 on ebay. Not bad!
