I received my updated 950 yesterday. When I hooked it up today it wouldn't lock on a signal from a digital source (DD, DTS etc.). I am a little disappointed but what scared me was the loud crackling sound it made when trying to lock the signal. I have not been able to contact The Outlaws because it is Saturday. I am sure they will fix the situation. When I receive a replacement I will be sure to post my impressions.

I hope this isn't another "hiss" issue
Keep us posted, please.

Mennis,

I’m not the best to help with this, but what interconnects/inputs are you using.? Are you producing sound using analogue inputs/feeds sans ‘crackle’.

You might try a different interconnect, or a different optical/coaxial digital input choice to try your interconnect through.
It’s possible you’ve tried all this or are meaning something different.

Crossed my mind since in my past I’ve had two incidences of that kind of noise through the speakers. The first was an interconnect suddenly gone bad when recently moved. The second was a loose connection to the post.

I’d be utterly crushed, since I’m the want to play with it NOW crowd. But I do know, if its internal, per Outlaw's past track record they will be on it surprisingly fast. It’s bad luck it hit you on the weekend.

I am affraid it is not the interconnect or the connection. I check both. When I put the original 950 back everything worked just as it should. It is probably just a defective unit and not an indication of a more wide spread problem. This should was definately not hiss but a crackling sound. I can tell you my speakers did not appreciate this noise in any way. I am sending the outlaws an e-mail notifying them of the problem. I hope to hear a response soon.

My 950 will lock onto the bitstream, but it takes three (3) seconds. My old Marantz didn't have this problem, so that part of upgrading to the 950 is a bit discouraging. Maybe it is normal?

werner: my red dot is slightly faster than my last 950... just under 2 seconds or so.
