Just received my 950 today. Hooked everything up, doublechecked it and then turned it on. Went through the menus to set it up. Then when I went to calibrate the speakers, nothing. no test tone or anything. Been playing with it and can't get a peep out of it. I didn't know if there was something that I may be missing. Plus the setting keeps going back to stereo 5 on my inputs. I hooked my yamaha receiver and my parasound 855 back up and they worked fine. Anyone else with this problem....HELP!!

First, check the mute button. If that doesn't work, another person reported this same problem September 12, 2002 08:19 AM in this thread: http://ubb.outlawaudio.com/ubb/Forum15/HTML/000491.html

Good luck!

It's definately powering up and passing video through the component outputs. It doesn't appear to be recognizing any audio. I have put DVD's and Xbox games which are in dolby digital and it isn't auto-detecting anything.

Try to see if you get any sound using the internal AM/FM tuner. This way, you eliminate one more variable: i.e., you're not wondering whether the audio signal from an external component is making it to the 950. You already did something like this with the test tones, but it's worth testing out the radio too.

Good Luck,
Sanjay

I tried both FM and AM. When I tuned in a local station around here, an S would appear next to the signal type on the OSD, showing that I was getting a signal, but no sound at all. Is the 950 supposed to have sound right away, even before you configure it properly? This is my first journey into separates and I was wonder if I missed something when I configured it.

Yes. At least I haven't heard of any audio gear that won't produce sound until you calibrate it. (And I doubt the 950 is the first pre-pro to start doing something that unusual.) I'm at a loss as to why you're getting no sound.

Meanwhile, any chance you can give us a mental snapshot of your system: i.e., what's hooked up to your 950, how the 950 is hooked up to the amp and how the amp is hooked up to your speakers?

Thanx,
Sanjay

I am running a Parasound 855 from the outputs. I have my Toshiba DVD player running into the DVD video comp and Optical 2. My XBox runs into Video 1 Component and uses Optical 3. Both of these run to the TV through the video component out. (By the was, I show no degradation in signal and it still looks fantastic) My DST3000 HD decoder runs directly into the TV and uses Optical 1. Right now I am only using composite for Monitor out to the TV. I am using AUX 1 Analog to hook up the audio for the cable TV input. I know it can't be the amp because all I do is unhook it from my Yamaha receiver and hook it to the outputs of the 950.

Are you coming from the Multi Channel inputs to your Parasound amp, by any chance.

No, it is going from the ouputs. I have my DVD player also connected via the multichannel inputs for DVD-A.

When I press test tones, it doesn't even cycle through the speakers. I have all 5 of my speakers set to small with the rear surrounds set to none. Also, whenever I set one of inputs to dolby digital on the configuration screen, once I go out of it it resets itself to PL2-C.

I've got the exact same problem. Can't get sound out of anywhere. I've tried optical, coax, analog, (from several sources) and the test tones, and haven't heard a thing.

I've got a Parasound HCA 2003 for the front 3 channles, adcom 535II for rears, and a mackie m1400i for the sub. Sources I've tried are a Toshiba dvd player, Sony ld, cambridge audio cd player, and a Sony PS2.

Does your 950 cycle the test tones from speaker to speaker on the display? Mine stays on the left front with no sound.

It would be nice if Outlaw had a Hot line direct for the first few weeks of this new shipping period. Just so everyone who was having a problem like yours could talk to someone direct. And it would help out the factory to have a heads up to any production quality issues. I know when I hear your problem the first thing I think of is here we go again. But I am sure Scott will clear it all up Monday.

It's so hard to wait til Monday (sounding like a whining baby). Plus the process of unhooking everything just so I can watch TV this weekend. I knew I should have called out sick on Friday.

mtsmorse:

you could try the reset procedures outlined on page 45 of the manual. it doesn't seem to me to be the answer, but i sure would try it if i were in your shoes.

hope this helps...the sooner you power up, the sooner you will be smiling.

Actually, I called Outlaw yesterday and they overnighted me another unit, which I received this morning, and it's working great! My other unit did cycle the test tones, but I got no sound.

Spoke to Scott about 45 minutes ago and everything will be taken care of on Monday. Now that is great customer service, especially on a weekend!!

My 1st 950 had the exact same problem. They overnighted me another one, and it works great.
