I am looking at the 1050 and I have a few questions that some of you may be able to help me out with (I am new to this so please forgive any dumb ?'s)
I have an old Sony reciever (model #?) I run 5.1 and it doesn't have the digital decoder built into it (the DVD player does). Lately I have decided it is time to upgade for the following reasons.
-5.1 works great for movies but when listening to CD's only front left and right work, no sub (I think this has something to do with decoder built into dvd?).
-I cannot control the volume of my sub without doing it manually.
-I have no optical inputs in my Sony
Will the 1050 be able to correct any of these issues?
setup: fronts paradigm monitor 3's rear paradigm Mini monitors, center= paradigm C-350, sub= HSU Reasearch 1220

1. The 1050 has great bass management capabilities built-in. You can change the crossover point between the sub and the speakers at 20hz increments between 60hz through 120hz.

2. The 1050 gives you a sub trim capability can that you can use to control sub volume. It is accessible from the remote.

3. The 1050 offers two optical digital inputs plus one coaxial digital input.

I've had mine almost a year and I love the way it sounds. It's a great product and built a lot tougher than the price would lead you to believe. Good Luck!

Well...hopefully this helps you out.

1a) The DVD that is doing the decoding should also have a menu for seting up your speakers. If you set the speakers to small, and set the corssover point in the DVD players menu...it should filter the lower frequencies to the sub. (Current Setup)

1b) The Outlaw 1050 has an adjustable crossover built into it. This would allow you to send the digital output signal from the DVD (optical or coax) to the digital input (optical or coax) on the 1050. This would allow the 1050 to do all of the processing and filtering as aposed to using the DVD player. (Setup with 1050)

2) Sub trim can be adjusted on the 1050. I think the range is (-15db to +10db)? Not 100% sure on this one. This would alloow some flexibility in adjusting the sub level, however, once the level has been set on the sub's plate amp...you should not need to make too many more adjustments to the sub levels. The sub trim on the 1050 allows for minor adjustments to be made.

3) The 1050 has two optical inputs and one coax input.

Well, I hope you find this information helpful. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
