Just a quick question. Has anyone else experience an increase in volume when listening to HDCD and switching between analog and digital coneection? I have noticed that when I switch between 'stereo' and 'bypass' mode using a HDCD disk, the volume in 'stereo' goes up by roughtly 7 to 8 dB. This is a rough estimate just using my ears.

I am using my DVD player as my CD player and it does not have HDCD decoding capability. The digital connection is via coax.

I've noticed that bypass mode is a few db louder than whatever input I use (VCR, CD, Aux1 connected to a phono preamp). To my ear it isn't much more than 2-3 db. I haven't specifically tried a HDCD.

Very hard to tell, but most HDCDs don't seem any louder or softer than normal CD's to me. I think HDCD, personally, is a bunch of hooey. I've heard better results with good quality upsampling (44.1 kHz to 88.2 kHz) capable DAC's compared to HDCD's decoded on an HDCD capable player.

By the way, the Model 950 doesn't decode HDCD anyway. Could be just a change of signal levels between what the player is outputting via its analog outputs vs. what the Model 950 is doing internally.
