Yes. I've done that using my HK CDR30 (instead of my broken MD).
Could I record a CD or the audio track from a DVD to a casette tape? I haven't tried any of this yet so I really don't know.
I am not sure about this because I don't have any analog source. However, when you want to record a song from DVD to a digital source such as CDR (or MD), you have to use the onboard DA converter of the DVD player. Otherwise, you will get the "copyrighted material" message.
